The June issue of Tennis magazine cited findings from The Taylor Group’s annual research for the United States Tennis Association.
In 2008 U.S. tennis participation grew to nearly 27 million, the highest number recorded during the last 15 years. The Taylor Group’s annual study measures the level of tennis participation and tracks participation changes from year to year nationally.
From Tennis magazine:
"What’s up in this down economy? Visits to pawn shops, McDonald’s, and tennis courts. More Americans played the sport at least once in 2008 than at any time in the last 15 years, as participation rose 12 percent since 2003 to just under 27 million players. More than 7 percent of that surge came in the past year, according to an annual research survey conducted for the Tennis Industry Association and the USTA by the Taylor Research Group."
